When the Minwax product team introduced Phantom Gray to its oil-based stain line, we took the opportunity to make slight tweaks to the 2020 label redesign in order to bring the presentation of color name in line with other products in the line, like Gel Stain and PolyShades. In some stores, half pints of the oil-based stain were merchandised in such a manner that the rack could partially obscure the color name. Our solution was to surround the color name in a similar Minwax logo-shaped enclosure as Gel Stain and PolyShades, also shifting its location on half pints to higher up on the can — meaning it remained visible regardless of its location on the shelf. Shortly after bringing Phantom Gray to market, we set out to convert the rest of the Minwax Wood Finish oil-based labels to this updated design.
